CLASSIC CHILDREN'S AUTHOR ENID BLYTON

Hi, welcome back.
I wanted to share with you one of my favourite children's authors, Enid Blyton.  She was a prolific writer, who wrote more than 1000 stories for children. Her adventure mystery stories are timeless classics, sharing with the reader an instant connection to each of her characters.

  (1897-1968)

One of my  fondest childhood memories was sitting with my father in the chaise lounge, and listening to him read the Noddy Books. He brought the characters to life, each with their own distinct voice. This began my love of books, and a lifelong journey of reading.

I have since shared Enid Blyton books with my own kids, and like my father, began with the Noddy Books.

NODDY Stories of Toyland

A wonderful adventure series for preschoolers. Stories of creativity and imagination, with an underlined theme of morals; respect, friendship, kindness to others, right and wrong, all written without being preachy.

Noddy, the central character is a wooden toy, whose world if filled with discovery, adventure and friendship. His best friend Big Ears, is caring and wise, and the voice of reason. Tessie Bear is gentle and kind. Two cheeky goblins, Sly and Gobbo, add mischievous fun to the stories, often finding themselves in trouble with Toyland's police officer Mr. Plod.

Enid Blyton was probably best known for her adventure series, written for middle and upper middle level readers.Of her best known are the Famous Five, and The Secret Seven.

Famous Five series: Twenty one spine tingling adventures for middle grade readers set in a small seaside village.

Each story is centered around five main characters, siblings, Julian, Dick, Anne, their cousin George and her lovable dog Timothy.

Julian, twelve, is the oldest of the group, intelligent and the leader. His younger brother Dick, eleven, is humorous and at times cheeky. The youngest  Anne is a planner, an organizer, who of all five is the least adventurist. Cousin Georgina, who only wants to be called George, is feisty and headstrong. Lastly is Timothy, George's loyal dog, who is affectionate and protector of the group.

The Secret Seven:

The Secret Seven meet frequently in the secrecy of their backyard garden shed. It is here where they decide what to do, whether it be to assist in the community or help solve a crime. They are always available when and where their needed.

Enid Blyton has written numerous stories. I have only showcased a few of her collections, which really doesn't do her justice. Still today, she remains one of Britain's most read and loved children's authors.

Happy reading,
bye Rosalyne
