Hi and welcome to my blog. I am a parent of two teenage boys and understand the struggles many parents face getting their kids to read. My kids are busy, one in University who is studying music, the other in grade 11 and a competitive swimmer.
From an early age I encouraged my kids to read every day regardless of the format or genre, even if it meant reading the ingredients on a box of cereal.
The key is to capture their interest, find a topic they like. It can be anything from cartoon comics to biographies. It may not be your taste, what's required in school, or even at grade level, but bottom line they're reading.
The internet is a great way to introduce a reluctant reader to the fun and enjoyment of words. There are many great safe sites for kids. I have listed some below.
List of sites:
How stuff works
National Geographic for Kids
Ask Jeeves Kids
How Stuff Works
