MOCKINGBIRD

Hi and welcome back.

I hope you've had a great week. Mine's been busy, filled with writing, racing against the clock to complete an assignment. I needed to take a break, and picked up a gem of a book, in one sitting read it cover to cover. I had no idea what to expect, and by the third page couldn't put it down.
The book is called Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine. I have posted both book covers below.

Mockingbird is a middle grade reader, but can be enjoyed by any age. It is a very special book, one that should be read by all.

It is informative, and an eye opener into the understanding of aspergers, narrated by the main character, sharing with the reader an insight into her world, how she perceives the outside, her fears, struggles and successes.

Caitlin, a ten year old girl, is trying to piece together her life after the untimely death of her brother, a victim of a school shooting. Life around her has fallen apart, her father devastated, as many are in the town by this senseless act of violence.

Caitlin struggles to understand the emotions of those in her life. With the help of her school aid, Mrs. Brook, she begins to unravel the mystery. Throughout the story Caitlin faces bullying and exclusion, but as she breaks through her own barriers, learning how to read facial expressions, understanding of empathy, finesse and even closure, she begins to find acceptance from her peers.

It was a wonderful sensitive read. I would highly recommend the book!

I will leave you with another title, an adult read that can be enjoyed by teens. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night by Mark Haddon

Thanks for reading. Please feel free to add or suggest books, ideas, or your own thoughts. Much appreciated.

Bye, Rosalyne
